Not bad, but...

It's not very comprehensive. I've also read the Japanese for dummies book and some of the material is repeated here. The booklet says that the CD's contain mp3's of each lesson to save you from ripping the CD's yourself, but my copy had no mp3's. The booklet contains more detailed descriptions of what you're listening to on the audio, which makes it less of an audio program in my opinion. Some of the essential words that you must know include, apple, pig... ???

Overall I did learn a thing or two, and that is what counts even though I could have used a few more examples and better explanations of certain things.

Helpful But Too Fast

Overall, this product is pretty good, depending on what you're looking for. I wanted something I could listen to in my car for long trips, but found that I can only do this after I have a good Japanese language base to go from. The reason for this is because when they say the words/phrases in Japanese, the speaker says it so fast that it's too difficult to figure out exactly how it's being pronounced- you have to look in the book as a guide for the spelling, which of course is impossible to do while driving. It would be better if the speaker broke the word/phrase down into parts for a better understanding of pronunciation. The book/CD combo work well if you actually sit down with the book and listen to the CD, but if I had the time to sit down and do this, I would have just taken a class. I needed something that was quicker in teaching and allows me to do something else simultaneously (i.e., drive, work out, etc.).
