All in All, a Disappointment

Having been to Barcelona and seen videos of some of the exciting architecture there, I had high hopes for this book. Unfortunately they were not realized.
Some of the book's shortcomings are:
1. The book is quite small (5 inches square), so that you have to squint to see whatever details are visible;
2. The author focus on only the most recent architecture (the last five years), thus overlooking some of Barcelona's most important buildings;
3. Much of the book is taken up with interior shots, i.e., interior design, of restaurants and the like, which suggests the author may have been paid to promote certain establishments; and
4. Most importantly, many of the buildings he does include are mediocre, e.g., rectilinear apartment houses and factory buildings.
If you are interested in seeing an excellent video of Barcelona, try "Barcelona" [ASIN: 6303209777] a superb 1994 VHS tape that combines air and ground footage with none of the commercial plugs or other fluff that appear in most travel videos.

"absolutely fabulous" the best modern architecture design guide out today

This book is the quintessential guide to the architectural masterpieces that make up the new modern design destination of Europe. I bought this book for Christmas 2004 for my upcoming favorite destination trip to Barcelona.There are many places to visit while in Barcelona. The shopping, art, and restaurants are among the most beautifully designed spaces that will make your jaw drop. I was fortunate enough to visit these spaces while in BCN in the spring of 2005. My favorite is the Hotel Arts Barcelona, the lobby is a visual feast. Alot these places are located in Ciutat Vella, or along the Barceloneta. There are many majestic sights in Barcelona. Especially the Museu d'Art Contemporani de Barcelona, it has been there about a decade but the architecture is timeless. Lupino also in the guide is better than I had anticipated great place to eat and the design is sleek and chic. Bestial is also at the top of the list on design and ambience. It is a place to "see and be seen" all the beautiful people of Barcelona trek to the Bar.It is a short walk from the Hotel Arts. You will definitely enjoy the book along with your trip to Barcelona. Take plenty of pix.
