Designed for serious amateur photographers, the Bogen 3021N camera tripod is versatile enough for indoor and outdoor use. Its legs are constructed of anodized aluminum, making it strong and durable, but weighing in at just 6 pounds and collapsible to a length of 24.1 inches, the Bogen 3021N is both sturdy and portable. Purchased this as a gift, it is a great set of tripod legs. Easy to use, great min and max height. Actually considering getting one for myself.

I use this tripod with the Bogen/Manfrotto 3030 pan/tilt head, and a Canon 20D DSLR. I've used it for about ten months, mostly outdoors.
The tripod is sturdy and well-built. It's easy to disassemble for cleaning. Cushions on two of the legs make it a little more comfortable to carry on your shoulder if you have a long walk.
Minor extension (an inch or so) of the center column is needed to bring the camera's viewfinder to comfortable eye-level (I'm 5'8"). The center column can be removed and the head fastened to the top of the tripod. Then the legs can be spread flat so that the head is only inches from the ground. That means that with the center column removed the camera lens can be located anywhere from about 8 inches to about five 1/2 feet from the ground.
Use of the center column can add 15 - 16 inches of height. The height of the column has to be adjusted manually and fixed in place with a wing-nut type setscrew. My old tripod had a crank to adjust height, and I miss it a little. Presumably, the lack of a crank mechanism facilitates removal of the center column and therefore provides more versatility at the low end of the height range.
Three regular setscrews help secure the head to the center column. It's a good idea to have a screwdriver (maybe a Swiss army knife or multi-tool) in your camera bag so that you can tighten the setscrews when they work loose in the field, or when you want to remove the center column and place the head directly on the tripod.
