HP products 1210 specificially
rating: 5

I actually bought the most recent 3 of 6 HP printers from garage sales.

And in all cases they worked perfectly.
The only problem was one of the garage sale printers was too old to work well on XP PRo (it was win98/w2k only).

Fact is I think mmany of the negatives are from people who claim to be computer savvy but in reality dont know much.

the 1210 is not intended to be a top unit for scanning or printing.
In that context this unit is 5 stars.

If you are trying high volume, you bought the wrong product, but should not give it negatives on that since thats not whats its for.

This is the first ever all-in-one for me and was bought soley per garage sale price.

Many of the negatives relating to install were talking about adding this unit to what I consider to be substandard os's anyway.

If u are putting this on anythying other than XP, you are a fool.

Ive in fact never had problems with any HP printer except for prinintg labels or envelopes. Dont do enough of either to comment.

Avoid At All Costs

As a scanner, it does quite well. For the size of the scanner, I've yet to have any issues. The printing part of it is a completely different story. As a former prepress manager, I loathe and despise this printer with every fiber of my being.

The printer itself is by far one of the worst printers I've ever used. It has no mechanisms to make sure the paper is fed properly and no way of knowing that you've inserted the paper at just the right depth. Even if it is fed by a perfectionist, it will skew the paper itself. Documents can be printed at angles as obnoxious as 15 degrees and the vertial alignment can be as off as a 3/4". Sometimes it also will not allow you to insert a stack of paper because it will pull multiple sheets at once, either printing on each sheet as if it's one sheet or jamming up. Maintaining it is ridiculous, too, as give or take ten "jobs" (even at normal 300 DPI) can run down the overpriced print cartridges. It also doesn't even come with the necessary USB 2.0 cable to plug it into your computer. The only redeeming quality to the printing is that its 600 DPI printing is fairly good.

Great

I bought this about 4 years ago, and have never had any real problem other than a paper jam occasionally. It was well worth the $80 I spent at Best Buy when it first was marketed. I'm looking for an ink refill now, so I have faith it will last for some time.

I love it!!

I have had this printer for 3 or 4 years now, we bought it when it first came out. I love it. I use it to copy pictures of the kids and have never had a complaint. We bought a new computer about a year ago and the scanner doesn't work with Windows XP. You have to manually go into printer and scan that way. Also the paper is starting to stick, when it tries to load it doesn't always pick it up on the first try. I figure it just needs to be cleaned. I think I will buy another instead of trying to clean this one, it has been through alot and is probabaly getting worn out anyway.

Decent Basic Printer
rating: 3

Nice Small basic printer. If you just need a standard printer for black and white and basic color this is the printer for you. I like the fact it can do scans/ copies/ print etc... all in one little compact box. Color print Quality is not that great, but ok for the price. I do not recommend it for pictures or anything hi quality. The paper gets jammed once in a while, and will need to feed it manually. Ink cartridges are pretty pricey like $25 and must be changed somewhat often. There is no cleaning option on the machine either. The buttons are pretty basic, and easy to follow. I had it for several years now but it is still working.
