This comedic and touching family film follows the adventures of a shy young boy (Haley Joel Osment) who is sent to spend the summer with his eccentric uncles (Michael Caine, Robert Duvall). At first shocked by his uncles' unconventional behavior that includes ordering African lions through the mail, the boy soon becomes enthralled with unraveling the mystery that has followed the uncles for years. Hearing tales of their exotic adventures involving kidnapped princesses, Arabian sheiks and lost treasure, not only brings him closer to his uncles but also teaches him what it means to believe in something... whether it's true or not.

Wonderful film, if a bit dubious

This film made me laugh from the inside and left me happy. This is what a movie experience is meant to be. The humor is not crass, the characters quirky, and the main character holds the plot together nicely.
Parts of the film seem a little far-fetched, but that only contributes to its likeability in my eyes. It's clearly the product of someone's imagination, uncluttered by mainstream garbage.
An enjoyable family movie, just don't expect it to hold any lessons on honesty :-)

Not only was this movie entertaining but educational. Somewhere along the way, it seems people have forgotten the most important values in life. To the producers of the movie.....thank you for that reminder.

Even my husband loves it...

This movie is one of very few family-style movies that my husband (Army, police officer, lover of explosions and Die Hard and that) loves. It's funny, but even more than funny, it has a wonderful message. It's impossible to nitpick the good or the bad with Second Hand Lions; you can only watch it and enjoy it. A must see for anyone with kids, or without. Even cynics are invited.
