Incredibly good suspense film
rating: 5

This is an amazing film that has so much suspense and atmosphere it truly pulls the viewer in. There's plenty of shocks which are excellently timed, and when the alien does appear it doesn't disappoint in the least. The cast are all superb and the direction is incredible.

A fantastic film.

Alien- Amazing Female Lead in SciFi/Horror Classic
rating: 5

When I first saw this in the theatrical release, I was stunned: an amazing female lead (Weaver) and a mind-bending, artistic look. The very essence of this movie is also what you DON'T see- the "alien", instead you see dripping water, shadows, you HEAR the screams, but what's causing them??? Where is it? Great ensemble cast too and forget the cornbread...

Amazing. Watch it with the lights out and no interruptions. I dare you...

Ridley Scott's finest hour!
rating: 5

This truly is Ridley Scott's finest hour.
Here he makes an absolute masterpiece in the movie industry. He does everything superbly with the suspense growing with every minute, fantastic storytelling and great special effects for it's time which still are hard to believe how good they are. This is truly a horror classic in the genre and is still largely popular and recognised today. Alien is as close as you would come to an excellent and polished science fiction/horror.This 2 disc set is great also with with excellent picture quality and a really great commentary track by Ridley Scott.

Sigourney Weaver is phenomenal as Ellen Ripley and delivers an outstanding performance as the lone survivor who takes on the alien If you have been living in hyberspace and somehow haven't seen this classic yet I suggest that you pick it up immeaditaley for it doesn't disappoint.

ONE OF THE BEST SCI-FI FILMS EVER MADE
rating: 5

I decided to buy this movie because I've read many reviews saying it was a great sci-fi/horror film and after seeing it, I truly believe it is. I personally did not find it as scary as some claim it to be, but very intense. As for the "director's cut dvd ", it is far more. It includes the 1979 theatrical cut and director's cut both with commentary tracks and a three-part, three-hour making-of documentary. The new restorations are the best I've seen on any film let alone a film from the 70's. I highly recommend it to any Sci-fi fans or fans of movies in general. A modern classic. 9.5/10

Excellent SciFi/Horror film for its time
rating: 4

I first saw this film in 1979 when it was first released. It scared the crap out of me then. I recently bought this DVD and watched it again. Still very well acted and sets up its sequel, Aliens, very well. The computer technology ("Mother") on the Nostromo is very dated. The movie "2001, A Space Odyssey" had technology that we still haven't been able to duplicate and it was released 11 years earlier.

A note about this DVD release: Dolby Digital sound is not the default, you have to select it under the Languages menu (Dolby Surround 5.1).
