This is one of the things I would take on a desert island with me. I am in central NC (Burt's Bees is based out of Durham, NC) and this stuff is just as common as Chap Stick here. I have met a few people who have never used it, but never once have a met someone who disliked it.
I will say that once I did purchase a tube and upon opening it it had hardened and turned very white (maybe it was old? this was at a very small mom and pop store), but I returned that with no problems.

I used this for the first time about 6 years ago. Since then, it is impossible to not have it!
I have one in my purse, diaper bag, car, night stand, bathroom and kitchen. I am never without it. It has helped me avoid chapped lips for the past 5 years.
The smell is distinctive, not too sweet, not too minty.

This is the best lip balm I have ever used. About 4 years ago, I badly sunburned my lips, and ever since then I can hardly stand to wear lipstick or lip gloss of any kind. So I started searching for lip balms, trying to find something to ease my horribly dry and chapped lips. I have tried ALL lip balms on the market, every time a new one came out, I tried it. Nothing made my lips feel better, some even made them feel worse. Then I found Burt's Bees lip balm in a tube, and finally my lips don't crack, peel or hurt any longer. I use this all day, I have tubes in my night stand, car, purse, and even next to my computer. If you have had trouble with your lips like I have, give it a try! I finally have soft lips that aren't in pain any longer.
