I bought this game over the 2005 version mainly due to the price difference. It is definetely worth it for the price. The quality of graphics and gameplay are superb. The different possibilities in this game are endless. I play it on a regular basis in the franchise mode and I'm only half way through my first season. If you are big baseball fan this is the game for you.

This game is awesome. I have owned it since it came out and i still play it a year after. I have yet to throw a no hitter, yet i have come close. The greatest thing about this game is that you not only draft your "new blood" but you develop your team through dynasty. I am in 2035 and i have just ended a three year drought (cap reasons and bad trades.) Also save point and play with the legends and heroes of old. I cant be touched with Satchel Paige. Last ganme I threw him against a friend 7 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 9 Ks.. Its amazing. Problem was i threw alot of pitches. WARNING mistake pitches in this game go far and can decide numerous tournaments among friends. BUY IT PEOPLE

people are saying barry bonds should be on this game, but if they are true fans they would know that ea sports can't use his name. he's not with the MLBPA anymore.

Nobody walks. Ever. Sadly, it seems EA is more interested in flashy graphics than realism. Gee, who'd a figured? I play OOTP Baseball 6.0. No graphics, but stats are right on.

Best Baseball Game

Folks, this is the baseball game to get. All Star Baseball's franchise has gone downhill since 2001, ESPN has great graphics but nothing else, Triple Play is crap. After researching all these games, I selected this one, and could not be happier.
The gameplay here is solid. Unlike All Star Baseball which is too hard, you will be able to make contact most times. You will have a good degree of control of your pitches. There are no major issues with the controls, read the booklet to find out how to do diff things (slides, advancing runners etc.) but after an hour or two you will have it down pat.
Graphically this game is great. The players actually resemble their real life counterparts, to a degree. There are no graphical glitches whatsoever (like players sliding through a baseman, which allows some cool slides that knock down the fielder.) The only problem is that the ball looks too big in proportion to the field, but that allows you to see it a little better so its all good.
There are some minor issues here, some more minor than others but none so problematic that it should turn you off of the game. The one you might notice first is the rarity of home runs, even in the easiest difficulty. My first 5 or so games went by without one homer. After a while you'll realize that they just come randomly. If you hit the ball well it will go over the fence, but dont expect it too often. Sometimes you will be rewarded for your patience though. (I had a 4 home run game after about 8 without one, including two by (!) Aaron Boone) Another thing I noticed was that the difficulty levels coulda been done better. Playing the easiest (rookie) showed me winning about 8 of 10 games, while with the next one (pro) I was lucky to win one of 5.
The announcers arent exactly annoying here, but you will notice them recycling a lot of their comments. Often many times in one game. (Their favorite is a comment on how doubles set the runner up to score) but this is not that big of a problem. You will notice some strange occurances, such as the fielding control glitch at 1st base. On grounders down the line, just run it to the base yourself because the pitcher takes forever to get there and the throwing system (while it is near perfect in other situations) takes too long for a quick toss to the bag. For example, I hit one down the line and the 1st baseman ran over and fielded it but due to his momentum, he ended up in foul territory, so he stopped to wait for the pitcher, who didnt show up, thus giving Jorge Posada (not fast) an infield hit. My only other gripe is that there are too many diving catches. They never really robbed me of what shoulda been a hit, but expect a few diving catches per game. Mostly on balls that dont need to be dived for.
My favorite thing about this game is dynasty mode. In place of a season mode, you are given the opportunity to control one team over the course of 120 years (most players are probly still on their 1st or 2nd season.) Its basically like a season, but you control all transactions, roster moves, and player emotions. If a player gets unhappy you can just adjust his role on the team (back up, everyday, etc) or use him more. Once you get past that, you have a great season mode, that makes for lots of fun.
The pitching system is really great too. You choose where the ball wants to go using the joystick (on PS2) but the ball icon dissappears after a few seconds, making it more realistic because not all your pitches will be exactly where you want them. Then you hit a button to choose the pitch and the location of th cursor is where the pitch will go. Then there's a "pitch bar" (sorta like how you swing in a golf game) you hold the button down and let go at one end to make the pitch more effective, then tap it again as the bar goes back down in the right spot, to make it more accurate. It sounds wierd but its very effective. The throwing is similar too.
Overall, this is a great game to get, esp if you want a recent baseball game. Its as close to perfect as ive seen baseball get on the PS2.
