| User Reviews | | Switch Hotkey is Scroll Lock x 4 ! rating: 5
PC1: Windows 2000, PC2: Windows XP Pro
K: Logitech Ultra-Flat Keyboard, V: Sony SDM-S71 LCD, M: Logitech MX1000 Laser Cordless Mouse
At first I wasn't too pleased with the F1DK102U, and certainly after reading the reviews here and elsewhere identifying problems which I had begun to experience - keys getting stuck so that they continuously repeat, left arrow for instance, KVM getting stuck on one PC with both LEDS lit up on unit so that it always switches away from the other running PC after a couple of seconds, no hotkey just the stupid KVM.EXE systray icon to click - I wasn't too thrilled with my new purchase.
Then I found a solution to the hotkey problem - whack ScrollLock 4 times in quick succession and it switches!!!! The original poster said 6 times, but 4 seems to work for me - so now I've ditched the KVM.EXE software and systray icon. Why Belkin did not put that in the user manual, it s a deal breaker for many! Maybe it doesn't work for all OS/keybd/mouse combinations.
The stuck key problem simply requires that you switch away from the affected PC, wait 5 secs for the keyboard to disconnect, then switch back and once the keyboard re-connects, the behaviour has stopped.
Finally the staying on one PC problem can be solved by powering down the KVM unit for a minute - disconnect both USB leads from each PC. But it only happened once to me.
Added to the fact that in spite of what Logitech says, the Logitech SetPoint mouse software can detect my mouse, so that all the extra buttons & functions on the MX1000 work, which was not the case with my old PS2 KVM, I'm now more than satisfied with the F1DK102U!
As well, another poster pointed out that plugging the keyboard & mouse into a small USB hub connected to one port on the KVM frees up the other USB port for a printer!! I'm typing this with one USB port free, I'll try the printer later.

Absolutely Useless rating: 1
This unit has been consistently the least reliable piece of hardware I've owned. I have had the same random switching problem as every other one-star reviewer, from day one, and after 2 replacement units.
It requires some sort of magic to determine the exact sequence in which to power up hardware in order for this KVM to work correctly... I work as a service tech, so having to shut down my main machine every time I want to connect a second machine for diagnosis totally defeats the point of having a hot swappable KVM.
Steer clear at all costs!

Works for me. rating: 4
I have one of these at work and one at home. Both are about 2 months old and both function as advertised. One PC video is set at 1600x1200 and the other at 1280x1024. Both produce good images through the switch.
ISSUE #1: When rebooting one PC the switch may get "lost" and must be unplugged and reconnected. It then works ok.
ISSUE #2: There is no keyboard or "hotkey" switching. This is a minus but the software switch does work correctly.
ISSUE #3: There is a delay of 3-4 seconds after switching before the mouse and keyboard are re-enabled.
ISSUE #4: The USB connector for the switched PC is on a fairly short wire. The distance between the video connector and USB connector may be an issue.
EQUIPMENT: Desktops, Toshiba Notebook. WindowsXP, Windows 2003 Server. MS 4000 Ergo Keyboard, MS 3000 Comfort Optical Mouse, MS Wireless Mouse.

Does not work well rating: 1
I bought this product to switch between two PC's. Since both use USB. Did not work well, a few times I had to unplug it and get manually plug up one of the computers just to save my work. I am now using a linksys KVM and so far so good.

Waste of money! rating: 1
This piece is a total waste of money.
1. No hot keys
2. USB mouse and USB Keyboard freeze more often than not !
3. Monitor freeze occasionally
I am not sure why Belkin makes such products and puts its reputation at stake.
