I bought this router because it was heavily discounted down to $20. I got it set up and running and everything seemed fine. Yesteday however I started getting dropped connections to my DSL system about every 30sec to 2 minutes. My MSN messaging system detects this and I see it trying to reconnect. It would reconnect automatically but it is irritating to have to wait for the connection to start working. To test, I re-connected my PC directly to the DSL modem, rebooted, and sure enough all the problems went away. I did not use the wireless option at all. It did work well for networking my two PC's together with it's 4 RJ45 Ethernet connections on the back.

I bought this router from Compusa.com for $20 with 99 cent shipping. This was a steal! This is a great router for the price. I had a SMC 7004AWBR 802.11b router that died on me. I live in a 2 bedroom apt. With the b router I only got a signal in my bedroom and kitchen, which are both 1 room from where the router is. I could not get a signal in my living room, which is 2 rooms from the router. With the 6800g, I get a signal everywhere in my apartment. Setup was fairly easy. I like the browser interface used to configure the router.
I ran into a few minor issues with this router. When I first set it up, my internet was moving very slow. The next morning it was working fine, but then a few days it was slow again. When I plugged my pc directly into the modem, the connection was still moving slow. After a couple of days of trying to figure out the problem, I realized that the speed was back to normal when the router was unplugged. It turns out that the router was causing interference with the cable modem, which is an RCA DCM245. The router and the cable modem were originally next to each other. After moving the modem about a foot away, the connection speed went back to normal. According to some online forums, the DCM245 is a poorly shielded cable modem and is suspect to interference.
Another issue I found is with the WPA-PSK encryption. This is not an advertised feature with this model, and I think I know why, it doesn't work. When I enter a WPA-PSK passphrase, I am unable to connect with my laptop. I have an AT&T 6750g notebook adapter, so the hardware is compatible. I have to use the 152 bit WEP encryption, which is not as secure as WPA. This is a bit of a disappointment, but for $20, I can overlook it.
One last issue is that it is not compatible with 2.4 GHz cordless phones. I have a 2.4 GHz cordless phone on the same desk as my PC and router. When I receive a phone call, the router disconnect. However, it reconnects immediately. This is not a major issue. I simply removed the cordless phone and replaced it with a corded phone.
Overall, I consider this a bargain for $20. If you plan on using an older 802.11b notebook adapter, be aware that it may not be compatible with the 152 bit WEP or the phantom WPA. You may have to use 64 bit or 128 bit WEP, or but a new card. If you are considering this router, I think is definitely worth the $20 that CompUSA is selling it for.

Great router, works flawlessly

I got the AT&T branded version of this router for two of my friends and one for one of my clients. Setup was very easy. You can either use wizard mode or configure each section individually. I've setup this router with two types of cable modems (Comcast and RCN) and once with DSL over PPPoE (SBC Yahoo! DSL). On all three counts it worked flawlessly. Wireless portion can be configured to use no encryption at all, WEP, WPA and WPA-PSK. WPA mode supports configuration of secondary RADIUS server (you wont need it unless you are in corporate environment). You also can configure virtual server, DMZ add MAC address filtering, IP filtering and advanced routing. You can even tweak the wireless module performance (settings for beacon interval, RTS Threshold, Fragmentation, DTIM Interval, TX Rate and Preamble are available for modification). I highly recommend this router.

Great Router, Easy Install, Works Reliably, Great Price!

It works great, was easy to install, has good range (can access it with my laptop from the basement no problems), and it's been working reliably for over a week without a single issue.
It's fast 802.11G, also backwards-compatible with 802.11B.
4 wired network cable ports as well, so both of my desktops are connected to it via ethernet cable as they don't have wireless cards.
I couldn't ask for more from a router!

Excellent Price to Performance- even from across the street!

Purchased the AT&T branded version of this router 4 months ago.
This router has been by far the easiest to configure with no significant issues. I originally configured it using the wireless card in my finacee's laptop (didn't use the software CD) and set all the settings correctly for my LAN. Gave it a fixed IP address and allowed it to assign DHCP to any wireless device. Enable the WAN-configuration port and internet ping (if you have a firewall between it and the world) and you are good to go.
Total setup time? 8 minutes.
The router can stream a DVD from 3 rooms away to the laptop in the bedroom. Signal strength anywhere in the house (router is on the top floor) reads out at -35db, and right next to it reads -25db (netstumbler). No dropped link problems have been seen.
Supporting WEP, WPA, WPA-PSK, and one other (forgotten) this is probably the best I've used and configured in some time.
There is also a 'turbo-G' version available as well- this I've aimed across the way to feed my laptop over at the neighbors place when I'm working on his system (quite often)- signal strength is down around -60db, but I still get a useable link!
