Through this technology, the inner cooking pan itself becomes the heat source utilizing both high heat and fine heat adjustments to control the cooking process. The result -- quicker, more evenly distributed heat for perfectly cooked delicious rice everytime. This unit has an extra large colored LCD display with clock and timer function. Convenient detachable inner lid for easy cleaning, stay cool side handles make removal of inner cooking pan quick and easy. awesome rice cooker
rating: 4

This thing makes the BEST rice. I usually only make 1 or 2 cups, and it doesn't turn any of it into mushy, overcooked clumps.

I have a few nitpicks that detract from me giving it 5 stars. HOWEVER, unless a better rice cooker comes on the market, I'd guess that this is the best you can buy.

--The display doesn't show you how much time is left until you get down to the last 5 minutes. You have to remember from previous experience about how long it takes. (e.g. brown rice is 1 hr 20 min for me)

--The styling is, well, Japanese. It would be nice to have a different model for the US market that cosmetically fits in better with our other kitchen appliances.

Rice cooker that really cooks!

I have purchased IH Zojirushi after my old Panasonic rice cooker bit the dust by being flooded with too much liquids. The Panny lasted 7 years, it was a 3 cup model, and the included recipe book was not for the 3 cup max capacity, but I should have known better.

Now the 10 cup model can cook pretty much whatever I throw at it. I make pasta, millet, quinoa, rice, multi-grain rice mixes, and kechadi (rice and dahl mixes). It works well. It keeps rice from forming a burned base on the bottom of the pot after storing rice in it for couple days. It just works.

Bon Apetit!

Great with little preparation.

I bought this rice cooker from amazon around a year ago. I have enjoyed every day with it. I mainly use it for gaba brown rice. I started using brown rice over white rice and potatoes because of the nutritional benefits. Investing in this rice cooker was a great decision. I rinse my rice the night before and throw it in the bowl with water. I then set the timer for 5pm the next day. I have yet to come home to unfinished rice. Another plus is the automatic heating option that kicks in after the finish. This allows a much more flexible cooking/eating schedule since brown rice can be kept heated for 4 hours without a noticeable loss in quality; white rice has an extended heating option that keeps the rice ready to eat for 24 hours.

I also use this machine for quaker oatmeal. I put the oatmeal in the night before, and set it for 6am. No milk needed, the oatmeal tastes great straight out of the bowl. For a tip on oatmeal, I put 1 cup of oatmeal in with the water level filled slightly below the porridge level. This gives me an oatmeal that is not dry nor soggy. By the way, if I also want brown rice that day, I will rinse it the night before, clean the bowl after oatmeal and toss it in. As many have posted, cleaning is extremely easy.

Of course the white rice setting is great also. The lines along the rice cooker make for a pretty fool-proof water to rice ratio. The battery in the machine lasts for a very long time. This keeps the machine from losing its clock adjustments when cleaning. This is great for me since I live an a small apartment with little kitchen counter space. This machine is large, so I can't fit it in my kitchen. I just have it sitting on a rack in a completely separate room of the house. This keeps my kitchen looking tidy, and I just have to unplug the machine, carry it over to the sink, clean it and plug it back in.

I would recommend this rice cooker to anyone who has 10 minutes the night before, or morning of, to prep his or her meal (1 minute if you don't clean your rice). If you are looking for for a quick rice cooker, this is not it. But if you are looking for one of the most hands off rice cookers that makes a delicious and nutritionally enhanced rice, this is the rice cooker for you.

I think its the best rice cooker

I had it a long time now and I still love it. I would buy another zojirushi induction rice cooker if this breaks. its cook's rice and other stuff fast. I do use it for other thing beside rice.

Cooks great white and brown rice

I am Asian and rice is a staple in our family's menu. We don't buy bags of rice, we buy sacks! Lunch and dinner is always served with rice, and sometimes even breakfast too. This the first time I bought a rice cooker with so many features and I have not been disappointed so far. Cooking time on the Zojirushi is slower because of the different heating system but its not terrible. We always had time to cook rice in advance so the difference is irrelevant to us. Maybe if you are always in a hurry this might be a problem but my advice is slow down and enjoy your rice :-) Cooking in advance is also great because the "Keep Warm" system is top-notch. I have yet to get burned rice even from re-heating and the rice stays fresh for longer periods.

We also tried cooking brown rice. My wife was used to adding much more water than required but it turned out too soft. I told her to follow the instructions from the manual and when she did, the results were excellent. We used the "Gaba Brown" setting which will take more than 2 hours to cook. Leaving the brown rice on water overnight and then cooked as if it was regular white worked out as well (my wife loves to experiment).

Overall, this is a top-notch product and is worth every penny.
