 | my go-to set of DVDs rating: 5
As a dedicated home exerciser, I have a ton of different DVDs out of necessity - to keep motivated, I have to keep things interesting. However, I've found I keep going back to these Firm workouts pretty religiously - especially the longer body sculpting ones: Total Muscle Shaping with Stephanie Huckabee & Complete Body Sculpting with Christa Riley. These are tough, tough, tough, but they work. True, the production quality may be inconsistent, but after you've done them a few times, you know what's coming & can focus on the exercise instead of craning your neck to watch the screen. After all, what I care about is the workout, not whether it makes for riveting viewing.
The Fat Blasting Cardio with Lisa Kay is kinda dancey, but I was surprised at the sweat it works up. It doesn't contain an abs section, so you'll have to supplement it with your own routine if need be. All the instructors in Hips, Thighs & Abs with Pam Meriwether were barefoot and it reminded me of those old-school Jane Fonda tapes where you're on the floor, doing things like inner-thigh lifts, and on all-fours doing leg lifts. I'll tell you what though, the backs of my legs were SORE the next day. I don't have a sculpting stick, so I used my handweights instead and still felt a massive burn.
Different reviewers have criticized The Firm for being cheesy, but at least the instructors don't chit chat throughout the video - which has come to be one of my pet peeves. I use either Taebo or the Jillian Michaels Cardio Kickbox when I want a day off from weights, and while they're both really good workouts, I finally had to mute Jillian and blast my own music...there's only so many times you can pop in a DVD and hear the exact same intro and banter OVER & OVER & OVER (kinda like Groundhog Day) before you either wanna kill her or yourself. Ditto her 30 Day Shred - great workout, but shut up already. And don't get me started on Billy Blanks.
In addition to the Firm, I also quite like Jeri Love Get Ripped 1000 - it's insanely tough in parts and your heart-rate will feel like it's through the roof, but it's really thorough, combines weights, cardio, and abs, and she's nicely soft-spoken and non-annoying.

The Firm Body Sculpting System rating: 5
This is an excellent product. The incline box gives you a great range of motion and really enhances each workout. There is a great deal of focus on the legs and thighs. You will do lots and lots of squatting!I would not recomend this series for someone who has not already began an exercise regimine, as it is quite vigorous. Overall, I have found this product to be wonderful, and a great bargain.

Excellent results in a short time... but be patient! rating: 5
When I first tried this set I was VERY discouraged, the steps were incredibly hard to follow for someone who has never done aerobics before. I was so very frustrated and thought about returning the set but wasn't sure if they'd take it back since I opened the DVDs. So I decided to stick it out and started with one DVD at a time, not doing the workout but just rewinding each section over and over until I knew the moves. This didn't take as long as I thought. And it was SO worth it, I saw results after about 7-8 workouts and they just kept getting better; even my husband noticed my lifted bottom, thinner thighs, and more sculpted arms after only a month of doing the workouts according to the enclosed calendar. I have never seen such great, quick results before from any other workout. I have been using this set for the last two years or so and still see increased results... you just have to keep increasing the weights. You can use this box with the newer DVDs as well (the ones that go with the transFIRMer), you only miss out on having an 8" box but using the 6" for those sections is fine. A fave of mine from that series is Jiggle Free Arms. My biggest advice - start SLOWLY, with no weights like they suggest until you feel ready.

The Firm with stepper rating: 3
Its really tough. I found it too hard to keep up with the ladies, I had to keep pausing it when we changed the position of the box.
