With its effective focal length range of approximately 16-35mm in 35mm format, the EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM is a remarkable lens with outstanding image quality that will take your photography into new dimensions and areas of dramatic expression. The super-wide zoom not only gives you the freedom to get exactly what you want in the shot, it dramatically alters perspective to allow for dynamic expression. The lens allows you to get extremely close to subjects, exaggerating the difference in size between a near object and its background. Creative photographers can use this phenomenon to create excellent separation between subject and background for a strong sense of presence, or for a pan-focus effect with everything from foreground to background sharply in focus.Exceptionally light and compact for its focal length range, the EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM also has an incredibly close minimum focusing distance of just 24cm.A ring-type USM works in concert with the camera to provide super-fast, precision auto focusing and predictive tracking - with full manual override available at any time.Designed specifically for digital photography, the lens has specially shaped lens elements and Super Spectra coatings to suppress ghosting and flare, which can be caused by reflections off digital camera sensors. An exclusive optional lens hood can further reduce the incidence of flare.A circular aperture provides a pleasing background blur when shooting with a wide aperture; ideal for creating a sense of depth and getting your subject or model to stand out from the background. | User Reviews | | Good wide angle lens for Canon 1.6x FOVCF cameras rating: 4
I have owned this lens for just over a year. While it is not my most used lens, it does get some action. The images from my copy are quite sharp, have good color and contrast. The image quality is on par with all of my L lenses, but the build is not. The lens is very lightweight and small. I find that I use this lens from about 14-22 most often as the distortion between 10-14 is too much for me to handle. I use this lens mostly for landscape, interiors and environmental portraits.
I would recommend this lens to anyone sticking to Canon's 1.6x camera bodies who needs something extra wide. If you are planning on adding or going FF (and distortion is your archenemy), I would suggest getting the 17-40L. It is comparable in price and is compatible with FF cameras.

Great choice for wide-angle rating: 5
I purchased this lens to round out my lens collection since I already have a telephoto and a standard zoom. It takes amazing photos, probably the best quality of all of my lenses. Very little lens distortion, colors are vibrant, photos are extremely clear. Great fast focusing. Allows me to get the entire forest instead of just a clump of trees. Great for indoor shots of photos of buildings. It's not a walk around lens, I know, but it's sure tempting to use it as such.

Loving the super wide angle lens rating: 5
I use this lens quite often. This is the wide-angle zoom lens goes perfectly with my rebel xti. With this lens, I can fit tall skyscraper, wide landscape, room interior into one picture. The lens is very well built. One downside with the lens is the distortion on the wide-end. But I think this is inevitable in every wide-angle lens.

The Canon 10-22 mm Lens does everything I had hoped it would do for my photography!

Excellent Lens rating: 4
I have been using this lens at weddings and simply love it! While there is a lot of distortion on the edge at 10mm (which should be expected, but still stinks), it makes for some unique images, especially when trying to take in the entire "scene". I have also used it to get large group shots when there's no room to back up. At one wedding, I overheard someone saying "that must be an awfully wide lens 'cause I can't get everyone in!" as he gave up and walked away. I had enough room on the edges that they could easily do an 8x10 crop if they wanted to. It's also fantastic for the bride's getting ready images when it's in a small room. What a useful lens to have in the arsenal!
