i thought id seen it all, everything people like Lucio Fulci, Deodato, D'Amato, Miike, and so on had to offer, after watching these, im done.

I really liked the film Flower of Flesh and Blood it has the best special effects on a gore movie, also the snuff vision version on the dvd is an experience. The other movies are interesting, Mermaid in a Manhole is good, but he others are funnier than I expected them to be. The box set is pricey and hard to find, great extras, but try to watch them first before purchasing the set.

I haven't seen of these movies, but I heard about them. They sound sick! These movies are not for people who have a weak stomach or fainted heart. The only movies from the series that sound boring are 5 and 6.

CULT, B-MOVIE GORE AT ITS BEST

I have heard so much about these movies over the years, so I decided to get the box set so I could see all of them; and I'm NOT disapointed. These movies are for gore hounds, so if your looking for a horror movie that has substance, these film are not for you.
DEVIL DOCTOR WOMAN: Dark comedy with a very thin story about an obviously crazy woman (doctor) who performs underground surgeries. This is just an excuse to show gore and death scenes. I think that this is the weekest out of the bunch. There is also a "greatest cuts" witch are clips of the various movies.
HE NEVER DIES: Another comedy about a man who is tired of the daily grind so he locks himself in his apartment, and while playing with a knife he cuts his wrist. to his amazement it does not bleed, no does he feel pain. he then proceeds to mutilate himself. this is a pretty good movie, but it kind of falls apart in the end; I think something is lost in the translation.
MERMAID IN A MANHOLE: One of the better ones in my opinion. About a painter who recently lost his wife. While wandering in the sewer that was his childhood home?(for insperation?) he finds a mermaid. She seems to have some kind of skin ailment so the painter takes her home to help her. He decides to paint her portrait and as time goes on her condition gets worse, AND GORIER!!. Great special effects!!
THE DEVIL'S EXPERIMENT: This is one of the movies that people thought was a snuff film. A group of 4 men(4th person is operating the camera) kidnap a women and beat and torture her in an experiment to test the limits of human pain endurance. First off, The idea behind this film was good, but how can anybody think that this is real? When they first start hitting her, it's painfully obvious there hitting the palm of there hands and NOT her face(that's why there all holding her face when they slap her). you can see her smile and laugh a little when the're pinching her skin with the vise-grips. The iconic scene is the only reason to watch this movie; They lay her back, hold her head, and push a needle through her temple, and out the center of her eye!! THIS IS VERY REALISTIC AND BRUTALL!!! I can see if someone was watching just this scene, then maybe It could be mistaken as real.
FLOWER OF FLESH AND BLOOD: this is THE HOLY GRAIL of the series. The first 5 minutes or so is a women being stalked, then attacked by a masked man. She wakes to see that she is tied to a bed in some dark, dirty room. A man dressed as a samuri with white make-up and black caps on his teeth appears. He gives her a shot that serves as some kind of pain killer, and then proceeds to dismember her. First, her hands, then her arms. then her legs, finally he disembowels her and cuts off her head. The most disturbing, and gruesome part is when he takes a spoon, digs out her eye, then sucks on it!?!? He then adds her parts to his collection. This was a good realistic movie, BUT COME ON!!! Once again, HOW CAN ANYBODY THINK THIS IS REAL?? Just as an example, she would have died from shock or blood loss way before he disemboweled her. Plus, anybody knowlegable in movie special-effects can point out numerous parts where effects were used. One more thing, on the MAIN menu, select the movie, then move the icon to back(the leaf) but don't select it, then hit the down button. If you have done this correctly you should see a blood splatter on the womens lip. You have just found the "SNUFF" cut of the movie. this is a stripped down, edited version of the film that takes out most of what poduction value the movie had. It also takes out all unessasary parts of the film(like the chicken). One thing you will notice is the film has a much more '8mm' look wich gives it a much more realistic vibe.
HAVEN'T HAD A CHANCE TO SEE ANDRIOD OF NOTRE DAME
To sum it up: There's not much to these movies as far as story and plot go, but if your a gorehound and love splatter and splatstick, then the box set is for you. If your just curious, just get THE FLOWER OF FLESH AND BLOOD by itself

Don't get me wrong, I love Hideshi Hino's art. Come on!!!!!!!! How can the most visual, disturbing and graphically pleasing Japanese novels, be regurgitated into bland and uninspired films!
Prepare to be shocked by bad film making!
Buy the graphic novels and leave the rest to your psycological thought process. You wont be dissapointed.
