One way ticket to a bad night's rest - Buyer beware!
rating: 1

First, let me say that I am a loyal and happy Amazon customer. I have always had positive experiences with them, and they are not to blame for this badly designed product. Also, I don't write negative reviews lightly - a product really has to deserve my scorn.
Here goes... I bought my first Aerobed in 2000. I was thrilled with it. It was so comfortable that I slept like a baby - and amazingly, it even helped my painful sciatica to heal. I enjoyed it for a couple months, then it broke. I used the vinyl patch repair kit (what a pain in the patoot!), and I eeked another few nights out of it before it finally gave up the ghost.
No worries, I was still so happy with the product that I bought another one. And another after that. But years passed and the designs kept changing. "Improving." Ha! It seems to me that they get worse with each re-design. I've now owned at least 12 Aerobeds, and the one I bought several weeks ago will be my last. I give up.
The last 3-4 beds I ordered haven't even made it through a week of nights without leaking - but I remembered how much I loved them in the early days, and I bravely kept buying them, hoping and praying that they would work as well as the first few.
The most recent one I bought leaked from the moment I inflated it. It couldn't have happened at a worse time. After a long, exhausting day of travel - 12 hours on the road driving from Arizona to the Bay Area, my husband and I got to our hotel, desperate for sleep. I plugged the Aerobed in, blew it up and... it deflated in ten minutes... I could have screamed in frustration. The culprit: two tiny holes near the valve which my irritated husband discovered after a 20 minute search at 1:00 a.m. NOT FUN. Sleeping on the hotel bed was hell... but it was better than having to reinflate the accursed Aerobed every 10 minutes - or trying to use the patch kit in our state of utter exhaustion (as it requires a good chunk of time for the glue to dry before the bed can be used).
I have found that disasters like these usually happen at night, when people are most tired, desperate for sleep and are least able to handle a problem.
I should mention that I always read the instructions throughly, know the temperature and weight requirements and understand that the beds are not meant to be permanent sleeping arrangements. I did, however, expect the recent models to last more than a night or two.
Anyway, I threw the dratted bed away. $120 smackeroos the drain (more if you count the previous disasters), but I'd rather give up the cash than have to deal with the Aerobed customer service folks. Returning these products can be a nightmare. I had a unpleasant experience a few years ago with one of their non-friendly phone reps who challenged everything I said. If that weren't enough, two of my good friends have horror tales of their own to tell... so I am not even going to waste my time.
For those of you who use an inflatible mattress while traveling, I've found a fairly comfy alternative... I went to Linen n' Things and bought a couple twin size memory foam mattresses. I stack them one on top of the other, and they provide a pretty comfortable night's sleep on notoriously hard hotel room beds. Then I just roll them up together in the morning, and tie a bungee cord around them. Easy as pie to transport.
So... bottom line to all of you who are thinking about buying an Aerobed - think again!

Very comfortable

AeroBed 11813 Premier Comfort Zone Queen Aero Air Bed MattressThis bed is very comfortable. I have had it for about 4 weeks now and has not lost any air.

LOVE the AeroBed!

I bought this for my daughter who lives in a studio apartment; I was the first to sleep on it. It was comfortable & compact with it's own storage bag which I was able to use even with the sheets and blanket still on the bed! The built in pump worked perfectly during both inflation & deflation. It took less than one minute to inflate and about the same to deflate. And when it's deflated it is literally void of air. Amazing product. My daughter in law used it after I did and she also loved it.

very good product!

aero bed is really really good...i am sleeping on it everyday now. easy to inflat and deflat.no air leakage so far..

i got it because it's too expensive to buy a realy bed, and i am only stay for 6 months here..

but you can easily feel the difference between an air mattress and a real bed. i am still very much perfer a real bed, if I had money, i would by a real bed, at least a real mattress...

Overnight guests liked it

Our overnight guests liked it; thought it was good enough for a couple of nights. Our daughter thinks it makes a great trampoline, though we try to limit the jumping!
