User Reviews
Terrible product
rating: 1

I bought an averatec computer and within 4 months it crashed. The customer service reps are not helpful in the least bit, I believe they haven't a clue about computers. I would not recommend this product to anyone who wants a reliable computer.

Avoid this manufacturer at all costs
rating: 1

The previous review about substandard service is spot-on. The DVD-RW drive that came in my Averatec 3300 series laptop was complete garbage (my DVD-RW was made by QSI, I don't know if that's standard in Averatec laptops or if the manufacturer varies.) I couldn't get it to read DVDs or burn DVD-Rs without many errors.

After extensively searching Google I found quite a few other people who had the same problem and I was led to suspect it was a firmware issue, and the Averatec website didn't have any firmware upgrades, nor did the QSI site (which was mostly in Chinese and the little bit of English was very broken English.) So, I emailed Averatec asking if they knew where I could get a firmware upgrade. They refused to help unless I faxed them a copy of the original sales receipt, which I no longer had.

Bad product, bad support, stay away!

Some Cons
rating: 3

I was not impressed with the screen quality of this product or the way in which it was packaged and even how it functioned. I noticed it had a very high pitched noise coming from the fan, and this is when I'm not even using it! I'm sure it's not a problem for many people, but as a student this becomes burdensome in the library when silence becomes an issue. The screen quality was OK for regular usage, but the sharpness of the text was not that great when you're trying to write a big paper and must proofread twice to see if that period is really a comma. Colors are not as vibrant and none of that improved even after fixing the resolution and such.

The way in which the laptop came in its original packaging reminded me that I was getting what I paid for. The laptop was well packaged, but it didn't come with a handbook or any type of user's manual (or anything at all except the acessories, actually); just a sheet of paper with instructions on how to set it up (i.e. "Press the 'ON' button'"). It would be nicer to have a manual in case something malfunctions. Customer service wasn't that great, either.

Overall, the laptop is extremely attractive, light, and portable. If you're a traveler then I guess this would be the perfect laptop for you. Amazon did a great job at delivering it, I'm just disappointed that this turned out not to be the right laptop for me.
