Charlie

In the tradition of ?Scarface? and ?Snatch,? this electrifying true story chronicles the violent rise and fall of Charlie Richardson, England?s most notorious gang leader. At times a trusted friend, Richardson was also unimaginably brutal -- stealing and strong-arming his way to success on the mean streets of London. Reaching a level of power that attracted South Africa?s ruling elite and threatened England?s Prime Minister, Richardson and his infamous ?torture gang? were ultimately subjects in one of history?s most captivating criminal trials. Featuring a ?a magnetic performance? (Variety) by star Luke Goss, CHARLIE is a ?bold, bloody and bone-breaking? (Daily Star) crime thriller.

Good movie gets little respect
rating: 4

London, in the 50's and 60's produced two of the most famous "gangters" in the Kray twins. There was another one who deserved notice, Charlie Richardson. Luke Goss gives a great performance as Charlie, a London crime figure in the sixties who's brutality gave him legend status. This movie gives a docu-drama account of his rise and fall and it does a pretty good job of showing off his "business" savvy that took him from the low end of London to his eventual dealings in South Africa. The movie is not perfect; it's one that you have to follow carefully to keep up, but it'll make you want to see it again if only to better understand the layers of activities and numerous characters involved in this story. All in all, a good purchase. Even when you type in the title of this movie it's regulated to the fifth page. Just goes to show you the respect it gets.
