Word Games

Have you ever wished (maybe in times of stress) that you could snap your fingers or blink like Jeannie or wiggle your nose like Samantha and magically transport yourself to someplace far away? Or, better yet, transport whoever's causing you the stress? What if you found you could perform that feat via the spoken word? Would you use that power for good, or ill? In this story, realtor Cleve Decker discovers that playing with words isn't always fun. In fact, it can be dangerous...

This is a great little read -- You'll enjoy it a lot!
rating: 5

Readers who have seen John M. Floyd's work in popular magazines like Alfred Hitchcock's Mystery Magazine, Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine, and Woman's World will know what a talented writer he is. So it will be no mystery to them that they're in for a treat with "Word Games".

Cleve Decker is a real estate agent. His receptionist, Jenny, is visited by a spooky woman by the name of Jeanine Broussard. Apparently Jeanine wants to pay back her recently deceased husband's long standing debt to Decker's late father. The gift comes in the form of two words that Decker can say which will cause an interesting thing to happen. The gift can be used repeatedly to help Decker out of difficult situations. In true John M. Floyd style, this tale has a good little twist in it. The story itself reminds me of some of the better short stories I used to read by famous authors in my English literature books. You know the kind, the kind you were actually glad to read and reread. Upon finishing "Word Games", you'll probably take a few moments to wonder about the story that's bound to occur after the story. To me, this is a sign of a well told tale. This story gets 5 stars from me.

Go West, Young Man!
rating: 5

When a crazy psychic bequeathes magic instead of money in his will, what's a man to do but use it to the best (or worst) of his ability. Floyd's writing and his crazy twists and turns couldn't be better! If you want a fast read, a story just can't get much faster. I tore through it at break-neck speed. If you enjoy suspense and good old-fashioned retribution, this is the short story for you. Floyd has become O'Henry, Saki, and de Maupassant all rolled into one. What a trip!
