Yukee the Wine Thief
Merle, a long-time friend of the Poser family, takes 12 year-old Yukee hunting for bantam chickens in the Everglades. When he has Yukee all to himself, he sexually assaults the boy. Merle tells Yukee that his mother knew what Merle was going to do and Merle paid her to do it. Back home after the assault, Yukee sees Merle give his mother money. Yukee goes to his father's still and overdoes on wine. His father finds him in time and Yukee survives, but he becomes obsessed with other boys and fantasizing about doing to them what was done to him.This story is an excerpt from a novel-in-progress based upon the life story of Yukee, a prison inmate who is a sexually dangerous psychopath. The novel is a retelling of Yukee's life story, where, instead of becoming sexually dangerous, he turned his life around while still a boy with the help of two other people.
