| User Reviews | | classic Crusie, a joy to read rating: 5
Kate, like so many Crusie heroines to follow her, is on a mission to fix her life. She's successful, but unsatisfied, so between Kate and her best friend Jessie, they come up with a plan to rejuvenate her love life. Kate makes a list of criteria for eligible men, and Jessie urges her to go on vacation at a resort catering to singles--the perfect place to meet men fitting Kate's list.
So she goes, and determinedly starts dating one man after another who seems just fine on paper. And every single date ends in disaster. I'm not going to list the disasters and spoil them for you, but take my word for it--they're hilarious. Kate finds herself spending more and more time relaxing with resort handyman Jake, and proving that when it comes to love, the best laid plans of women... well, in this case, they lead to unexpected results.
Even though this is early Crusie, it's still got that special something. The snappy dialogue is immediately recognizable, as is the seriousness underlying laugh-aloud humor. In this case, a lot of the seriousness comes from communication issues, and a sub-plot between Jake's brother and his girlfriend does double duty both showing Kate that maybe she doesn't really want what she thought she want, and demonstrating the follies of miscommunication.
There's also the serious issue of ambition and goals and one's definition of a full life, and that's echoed in the sub-plot about new friend Penny, who's at the resort for one last fling before getting married.
I've got to say something about the humor, because far too many authors just don't understand the concept. They'll take the idea of the dating disasters and throw them into a story thinking that the more outrageous they are, the funnier. But in Manhunting, and indeed in any Crusie novel, it's not just a silly situation--the silly situation means something. The disasters aren't just random disasters--they connect to the characters in specific ways. Jennifer Crusie does humor right.
Anyway, Manhunting is just a joy to read. It's fast-paced and short enough that it can be read in one or two sittings, which you'll want to do anyway--it's hard to put down. The perfect read for a gloomy not-yet-spring day.

Hilarious and sweet! rating: 5
Another Crusie book that I just loved! I laughed out loud so many times, it was great! Kate & Jake are smokin' together and until they finally do come together as a romantic couple, their sarcastic jabs at one another are hilarious! I checked this book out at the library, but I want to add this one to my collection - it's definitely a keeper!

Cute, Fun Story rating: 5
Manhunting is an easy read, and a great, but predictable story. This was my first Jennifer Crusie (audio)book and I really enjoyed the way she told a story. She delivered a perfect amount of humor and tension. I also think that the reader of the audiobook did a great job. I look forward to more Jennifer Crusie books and audio books, if this is how all of her books are, I have found another author to snatch up their books.

Thank the Goddesses for Jennifer Crusie's sense of humor! rating: 5
I am new to the romance genre, so I am very thankful for reprints. And I really, really enjoy Jennifer Crusie's romances. I crave those sweet, vulnerable, funny and tender moments when people are falling in love, and MANHUNTING is full of them. Kate and Jake's story is sweet, funny, and full of small lessons and that any romantic will appreciate. Neither is what the other wants or expects in the opposite sex, and that's where all the fun is!

I loved this book!!! rating: 5
I loved this book. Since I started reading the book from the beginning I literally could not put it down. It was hilarious and at moments kinda sad, but it kept me reading page after page. The sex scenes were described awesomely! I was soo happy at the end I think I almost cried. I really felt her desperation and sadness when she describes the way she just wants to find someone to spend her life, but on the other hand I understand the way Jake feels and why he doesnt want to get involved with her because of his past experiences with women.
