L'Occitane Shaving Bowl with Cade Shaving Soap
If you're not too familiar with L'Occitane, its hallmark is making quality products using prime natural ingredients. Olive oil, honey, verbena and lavender are among my favorites. After having tried several of the soaps and lotions for myself, this traditional shaving combo caught my eye as a gift for my husband. He'd once told me he'd always wondered what it would be like to get an old-fashioned barbershop shave, so I thought he'd be curious to give this a try.
Yes, it seemed a little pricey, as did the refill disks. But I justified splurging on this kit and a brush to go with it because (a) L'Occitane had never disappointed me and (b) I was stumped. Turns out I made a good choice. It's been almost three years and that shaving set is still on the bathroom counter. Using a brush to generate lather rather than some chemical propellant surprisingly makes this no more expensive -- and perhaps cheaper -- than buying multipacks of aerosol. He's said it's more soothing than even the "sensitive skin" product he used to buy, and the shave seems equally close.
My one nitpick is that the patina of the container has started getting uneven. Then again, it's approaching the 1,000-use mark.
